How big is your carbon footprint?

With this handy Carbonkiller tool you can calculate the CO2 footprint of your household. This test takes approximately 6 minutes and consists of 15 questions.

By household we mean a living situation in which you are jointly responsible for, for example, the energy bill and the purchase of larger furniture. Do you live with others but would you like to complete this questionnaire for yourself? Then divide the energy consumption, etc. by the total number of people.

How many people does your household consist of, including yourself?*
Do you have solar panels?*
How much electricity do you use per year?*
You can find your consumption on the annual overview of your energy supplier. Don't know your power consumption? Then enter the average power consumption for a 1-person household: 1800 kWh.

What is your electricity consumption and return per year (in kWh)?

How much grid electricity per year (in kWh)?*
You can find your consumption on the annual overview of your energy supplier. Don't know your power consumption? Then enter the average power consumption for a 1-person household: 1800 kWh.
How much electricity do you return to the grid per year (in kWh)?*
You can find your consumption on the annual overview of your energy supplier. Don't know your power consumption? Then enter the average power consumption for a 1-person household: 1800 kWh.

If you do not know your consumption and return, you can fill in the averages below. This makes the calculation of your CO2 footprint less accurate.

  • Power consumption from the grid: 1,900 kWh
  • Return of electricity to the grid: 2,600 kWh

These averages apply to a household with 10 solar panels facing south.

How much gas or heat do you use per year?*
You can find your consumption on the annual overview of your energy company.
Car use*
How often per week does your household use the bus, tram or metro?*
Do you fly once a year or more often?*

How often do you fly on average per year (outside the corona pandemic)?

Add up the flights of all people in your household. A return flight counts as flying 1 time: so for a return flight with 1 person, enter 1. For a return flight with 4 people, enter 4. If you have not flown within zones, enter 0.

How often does your household consume meat or fish per week?*
Choose the answer that best matches your situation.
How many dairy products and cheese does your household eat and drink per person per day?*
Think of milk, buttermilk, chocolate milk, cottage cheese, cheese, yoghurt, butter, ice cream, (whipped) cream and custard. This concerns dairy products, not vegetable substitutes such as soy milk. 1 portion is, for example, a glass of milk, a bowl of yogurt or a sandwich with cheese. Choose the answer that best matches your situation.
How much food is thrown in the waste bin in your household?*
Choose the answer that best suits your situation. Thick liquids such as soup, sauces, oil and yoghurt also count, as does spoiled food. Husks, bones, stumps and eggshells should not be counted.
How many pants does your household buy per person per year?*
This concerns long and short pants, but not underwear.
What percentage of all clothing do you buy second-hand?*
How long does your household last with a sofa in the living room?*
Enter here how many years on average you use a sofa before replacing it with another one. This concerns the sofa in the living room and not sofa beds in children's rooms or guest rooms
What percentage of your furniture do you buy second-hand?*
Consider all the furniture in your home, such as cupboards, beds, tables and chairs.
How long does your household use a mobile phone on average before you replace it?*
How many of the mobile phones, tablets and computers actively used in your household are second-hand or refurbished?
If someone in your household has taken over the telephone from someone else (for example if a child uses one of the parents' old telephone), you also count that telephone as second-hand.
